Meeting genius

Arslan Ibrahimi is currently studying at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, which is one of the top universities in the world and alma mater and research institution for more than 80 Nobel Prize winners. In 2007 – 2008, while he was taking classes at Berkeley, he was very fortunate to meet one of the greatest scientists in the world who happens to also be Azerbaijani – professor emeritus at the University of California Dr. Lotfi A. Zadeh. Dr. Lotfi Zadeh was interviewed with the president of Turkic Student Association at Berkeley (TSAB) which Arslan was also a member of.

On a sunny April day the last couple of months at UC Berkeley, I was sitting on the grass with my friend Ulduz. I met her in Berkeley during Remembrance of Khojaly event organized by TSAB. This club was founded in 2006 by Ulduz with the goal of bringing all peoples of Turkic cultures and backgrounds together. TSAB has hosted nation-wide confferences, consulate generals of the Republic of Turkey and Azerbaijan at Berkeley, Remembrance of Khojaly  and also with much effort TSAB established the very first Turkic student-run magazine called Birlik. All of a suden i saw Rafig Aliyev in the middle of campus. I was surprised when I saw him in Berkeley. Rafig Aliyev was one of the best friends of my grandfather Tofiq Kocharli. They were working in the National Academy of Sciences together for many years.  When I saw him at Berkeley, I immediately walked toward him, he saw me and smiled. I introduced Ulduz to him and he invited us to attend Dr. Lotfi Zadeh’s lecture later that day.  Couple of hours later we were there at the beginning. It was the first time I had met Dr. Lotfi Zadeh in person. We were in a lecture among 12-15 PhD students and experts of the Fuzzy Logic. We did not understand anything but it was fun to be in the same room with the famous Lotfi Zadeh. After the lecture we introduced ourselves and spoke a little. We stayed in touch with him and asked him to give an interview with the Turkic Student Association at Berkeley. We are proud to have such an amazing person amongst us and were lucky to capture this interview in video. We hope that you would enjoy the video and share it with those who would be interested as well.
